When law enforcement receives a signal from the LoJack® system that a stolen vehicle is in their area, the officers never know what they might find- obviously, the missing car, truck, van or motorcycle- but sometimes they find more, like additional stolen vehicles or suspects. In this case, the NYPD finds a stolen Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle and a suspected chop shop set-up as well.

On November 3rd, 2013, the Yamaha’s owner contacted the NYPD 114th Precinct in Astoria, Queens, to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the bike’s information into the NYPD Stolen Auto Computer and the national NCIC computer. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed on the YZF-R6, which was installed at New York Yamaha/Honda in Long Island City, NY.

A short while later, detectives from the NYPD Auto Crime Division picked up the homing signal from the stolen bike on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicle. The detectives tracked the Yamaha to a residential garage in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, where they also found another stolen motorcycle and parts from a third. The YZF-R6 was recovered in excellent condition, without any damage, and was soon returned to its elated owner.
