One Sunday evening, the Miami Beach, FL resident in this case was watching TV with a ‘friend’ he had met on the internet. He fell asleep, and when he woke up close to midnight, both his ‘friend’ and his Honda CR-V were missing. What the culprit didn’t know is that, hidden inside the SUV, was the LoJack® system, which helped local law enforcement recover the vehicle in a little over a half hour after activation.

On September 22nd, 2013, the Honda’s owner contacted the Miami Beach Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the SUV, which was installed at Maroone Honda of Hollywood, FL.

A short while later, a Miami PD officer picked up the homing signal from the Honda on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Along with backup, he located the SUV parked and abandoned on NW South River Drive, with ignition damage and the radio missing. The CR-V was recovered and soon returned to its relieved owner.
