It isn’t definite which element in this case surprised the victim the most- that his Ford F-150 pickup was stolen, or that the thief turned out to be someone he knew. One fact that’s not a big surprise- the LoJack® system installed in his truck helped local law enforcement recover it fast- in less than a half hour after activation.

On August 31st, 2013, the Ford’s owner called Phoenix Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the stolen vehicle’s information into the NCIC police computer. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the F-150, which was installed at Pioneer Ford in Goodyear, AZ.

A very short while later, Phoenix PD officers began picking up the homing signal from the Ford on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the truck to West Adams Street, where it was found parked with an occupant inside. The suspect began having medical problems and was transported to a hospital. It was later discovered that he knew the owner but took the truck without permission. The F-150 was soon returned to its relieved owner.
