A light tower is a very valuable piece of construction equipment needed for work done at night, in dark conditions, or even in inclement weather. Its very value is one reason so many companies who own this machine protect it with the LoJack® system, as in this case where a 2010 Magnum light tower stolen in Miami, FL, is recovered by local police in less than two hours after activation.

On August 5th, 2013, the tower’s operator contacted the Florida Highway Patrol to report their machine stolen. The responding officer verified the theft and entered the Magnum’s information into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the light tower.

A short while later, a Medley Police officer picked up the homing signal from the light tower on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer located the vehicle at a construction equipment company alongside the Palmetto Expressway. The light tower was recovered and soon returned to the construction site.
