The Fourth of July is a day to celebrate our country- but one car thief decided it was also a day to steal a Mercedes Benz C320 convertible in Alpine, CA. Luckily, the vehicle owner chose to install the LoJack® system when he purchased his car, so local police were able to recover it in just over two hours.

On July 4th, 2013, the C320’s owner contacted the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from his residence in Alpine. San Diego County Sheriff’s Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Mercedes, which was installed at Escondido Motor LTD, in Escondido, CA.

A short time later, SDCSD deputies picked up the homing signal from the C320 on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  The deputies tracked the vehicle to Charles Way in La Mesa.  The deputies observed four suspects exit the Mercedes and attempt to flee.  All were detained and one suspect was arrested. The owner was very happy to get his car returned to him.
