The LoJack® system will help police track down your vehicle after you report it stolen- even if YOU happen to be the person driving it. Read on for more details in a very unusual auto theft case.

On June 10th, 2013, the owner of a 2008 Toyota Corolla contacted the Hialeah Police Department to report that his car was stolen by a homeless “friend” who was staying with him. Officers verified the theft and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Corolla, which was installed at Palm Beach Toyota in West Palm Beach, FL.

A short time later, Miami-Dade PD auto theft detectives picked up the homing signal from the Corolla on their LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicle. Officers tracked the vehicle traveling near Biscayne Boulevard and N.E. 67th Street. After the vehicle was stopped, police discovered the driver was also the owner who had reported the car stolen. He informed police that that the suspect had returned the vehicle earlier, but the owner hadn’t contacted the police to advise them of the recovery.
