When faced with an armed carjacker, the safest response is to let them take your vehicle and get yourself out of harm’s way. That’s exactly what these Maryland residents did when a criminal wanted to take their Honda Civic. However, in addition to their car, the thief also took along the LoJack® system, which allowed local law enforcement to track the car down and arrest the perpetrator the same day.

On June 26th, 2013, the Honda’s owners contacted the Baltimore County Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen during an armed carjacking in Towson, MD.  BCPD officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Honda, which was installed at Heritage Honda in Baltimore, MD.

A short while later, flight officers from the Baltimore County PD picked up the homing signals from the Honda on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their helicopter. The flight officers tracked the vehicle to the Halethorpe area of Baltimore County, MD. Detectives from the Regional Auto Theft Team (RATT) responded to the area and began a surveillance of the vehicle, which resulted in the arrest of two suspects. The Civic was then recovered by police and returned undamaged to its grateful owners.
