Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, Henderson Police, and the Southern Nevada Auto Theft Task Force Recover Polaris 800 ATV Assisted by the LoJack® System

This case involves a great example of teamwork. Three different branches of Nevada law enforcement, with help from the LoJack® system, team up to recover an ATV stolen from a construction site.

On May 20th, 2013, the owners of a 2013 Polaris 800 Crew ATV contacted Las Vegas Metropolitan Police to report their machine was missing. The equipment was last seen parked at a job site near Mount Charleston, NV, on May 17th.  After verifying the theft, LVMP officers entered the ATV’s information into their stolen vehicle system. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed on the Polaris, which was installed at a large national rental company in Las Vegas, NV.

A short while later, officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Air Support Detail began picking up the homing signal from the Polaris with the LoJack tracking computer in their helicopter. The air crew requested ground assistance from Henderson Police, who tracked the signal to a large residential property containing several large metal storage containers. The Southern Nevada Auto Theft Task Force responded to assist, and detectives recovered the ATV intact inside one of the storage units. The suspect has been identified and the investigation continues.  The machine was undamaged and soon returned to its relieved owners.
