BMW X5 Stolen Twice in 4 Days in Boston — Twice Recovered in Hours by MA State Police Using LoJack

On the evening of December 16, 2011, a resident of Boston parked his 2007 BMW X5 for the night; when he returned the following morning, he discovered the vehicle missing. He immediately contacted the Boston Police Department to report the theft.
Boston Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen BMW’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the BMW and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
A short time later, officers from the Boston Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police began picking up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen BMW on Police Tracking Computers installed in their police vehicles. One of the State Troopers started receiving a very strong signal and, by following the prompts on his Tracking Computer, successfully tracked and located the unoccupied and undamaged stolen vehicle parked on Worcester Street. The Trooper had the vehicle towed from the scene for safekeeping until the Boston Police Department could inform the victim of the vehicle’s safe recovery.
This was the second theft and recovery of this same vehicle within a matter of a few days. This vehicle was reported stolen to the Boston Police on the morning of December 13, 2011 and recovered by the Massachusetts State Police a few hours later. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the BMW at the owner’s request, on April 25. 2007.
