Often, when the LoJack® System is activated to recover a vehicle, there are other stolen items retrieved besides the car itself, as illustrated in the following story.

On April 2, 2013 the owner of an Infiniti G35 contacted the New York City Police 63rd precinct in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York, to report that his Infiniti was stolen. The car was parked at his girlfriend’s home with the keys locked inside. The owner intended to pick it up the next day using another set of keys, but during the night the car was broken into. The thief discovered the keys and drove off with the car.

When the police officers entered the VIN, or Vehicle Identification Number, from the car into their computer, the LoJack unit in the vehicle, which had been installed by Legacy Infiniti in Lynbrook, Long Island, NY, was activated, giving off a silent tracking signal that is received by the LoJack tracking computers located in many police vehicles.

A short while later, officers from the 63rd precinct picked up the homing signal from the stolen Infiniti, and were able to track the G35 as it was being driven through Brooklyn. Eventually, the car was parked, and the officers staked it out. When the suspect returned to the vehicle, he was apprehended immediately, thus avoiding a potentially dangerous chase. The thief had in his possession some credit cards stolen during a recent burglary. He was arrested for both the car theft and the stolen credit card possession, and the Infiniti was quickly returned to its owner.
