LoJack Aids Orange County Deputies in Recovery of Stolen Dodge Caravan Used in Burglaries

On January 16, 2013, the owner of a Dodge Caravan contacted the Altamonte Springs Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the driveway of their residence.
Altamonte Springs Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Dodge.
A short while later, deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Dodge on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles and helicopter. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the deputies tracked the vehicle to an attached garage of an abandoned residence in Winter Garden. Evidence inside the Dodge indicated that the Caravan was used in two burglaries of liquor stores in Winter Garden early that morning. The vehicle was also recorded on video at the scene of an attempted burglary of a liquor store in the Pine Hills section of Orange County that same morning. Winter Garden PD Crime Scene Unit processed the Dodge and latent prints were obtained from the van and the evidence from the burglaries.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Dodge Caravan on June 2003 at Major Dodge in New Jersey.
