LoJack Helps King County/Renton Police Recover Stolen Volkswagen Jetta

On the evening of February 24, 2013, the owner of a Volkswagen Jetta started the vehicle and left it running to warm it up in the parking lot of his apartment complex, right outside of his door, in Renton, Washington. The owner went back into his apartment for five minutes, and when he returned to the lot, the vehicle was missing. He reported the theft to the Renton Police Department, who confirmed the crime, and had the vehicle identification number entered into the state and federal crime computers. This process automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Jetta.

Minutes later, King County Sheriff’s Department deputies picked up the silent LoJack homing signal transmitting from the stolen Jetta on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol cars.  Following the directional and signal strength cues on the LoJack computers, the deputies quickly tracked the vehicle to NE 6^th Street and Mount Baker Place NE in Renton.  There, they located the abandoned and undamaged Jetta. King County notified the Renton Police Department, who handled the recovery.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Volkswagen Jetta in August of 2005 at Paar Volkswagen in Bremerton, Washington. The current owner was not aware the vehicle was equipped with LoJack.

The approximate value of the recovered vehicle is $4,700.
