LoJack Helps King County Deputies Recover Dodge Ram Pickup Stolen from Church Parking Lot

On February 2, 2013, the owner of a 2003 Dodge Ram Quad pickup truck parked his vehicle in a church parking lot in the 17500 block of SR507 in Yelm, Washington. About an hour later, the owner returned for the vehicle, but discovered it missing, and immediately contacted the Thurston County Sheriff’s Department to report the vehicle stolen.
Thurston County deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Dodge truck.
Within minutes, an off duty King County deputy began to pick up the silent LoJack homing signal transmitting from the stolen Dodge truck on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol car. He notified Pierce County deptuies, as it was within their jurisdiction. Pierce County deputies located the truck, abandoned in the 18400 block of Silver Creek Avenue East near Puyallup. It did not appear to be damaged.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Dodge Ram pickup in June of 2003, when it was purchased new at Tacoma Dodge in Tacoma, Washington. The vehicle is valued at approximately $18,500.
