On January 29, 2013, the owner of a 2008 Toyota Rav4 contacted the Dover Twp Police Department to report that his vehicle had been stolen. The customer told police that the car was last seen parked in front of his house when he returned home from work.

The Dover Twp Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Rav4.

Within an hour, a patrol officer from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Rav4 on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officer tracked the vehicle to East 18th Street in the City of Paterson, where the vehicle was recovered abandoned.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2008 Toyota Rav4 on June 14, 2008 at Towne Toyota, Inc. in Ledgewood, New Jersey.
