Stolen Chevrolet Impala Quickly Recovered by Essex County Deputies Using LoJack

On December 5, 2012, the owner of a 2011 Chevrolet Impala contacted the Irvington Police Department to report that her vehicle had been stolen. The owner told police that she had parked the car in front of her home, and when she came back outside it was missing. The owner also called the LoJack Customer Service Desk to advise LoJack of the theft.
The Irvington Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Chevy.
A short time later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Impala on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officer tracked the vehicle to South Street in the City of Newark, where he found the vehicle parked. The vehicle was recovered undamaged.
