On November 29, 2012, the owner of a 2009 Dodge Challenger contacted the Gwinnett Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from his place of business.

The Gwinnett Police verified the theft and entered the Dodge’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers with the Gwinnett County Police picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen vehicle on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a home, where it was located in the basement.

After interviewing the home owner, the police determined that the owner had hidden the vehicle and reported it stolen, unaware that a LoJack unit had been installed by the vehicle’s previous owner back in 2008. The owner was charged with false report of a crime by the police.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Dodge Challenger on August 13, 2008 at Security Dodge in Amityville, New York.
