LoJack Aids Prince Georges County Police in Recovery of Stolen Kia Sorento, One Arrested

On December 2, 2012, the owner of a 2013 Kia Sorento contacted the Greenbelt Police Department to report that the vehicle was stolen from the 6300 block of Golden Triangle Drive in Greenbelt, Maryland. At the time of theft, the vehicle was valued in excess of $26,000.

Greenbelt Police verified the theft and entered the Kia’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers from the Prince Georges County Police Department in Maryland picked up the silent Lojack homing signals from the stolen Kia on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to the 6000 block of Surrey Square Lane in the District Heights area of Maryland. There, the officers observed the stolen Kia Sorento, parked and unoccupied. The police recovered the vehicle and notified the owner. Further investigation by the officers resulted in the arrest of one suspect in this case.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Kia Sorento in September, 2012 at DARCARS- Wilson Powell Lincoln in Temple Hills, Maryland.
