The owners of a 2006 Case Backhoe last saw their equipment on October 15, 2012, parked at a job site near Bonanza Road and Eastern Avenue. They discovered it missing later that day and immediately contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to report the theft.

Las Vegas Police verified the crime and entered the backhoe’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the equipment.

A short while later, officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s “Northeast Station” began picking up the backhoe’s silent LoJack signal on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the stolen equipment to the backyard of a private residence near Stewart Avenue and Gold Sunrise Lane.

Detectives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s “Construction Theft Detail” responded to assist with a Search Warrant. Police recovered the backhoe, and learned the identity of the suspect who transported the equipment to the property. The backhoe was located intact and was later released back to the owners. This remains an ongoing investigation.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed for Neff Equipment Rentals on March 13, 2008.
