LoJack Early Warning Enables Quick Recovery of Stolen Honda Motorcycle by Durham Police

On August 30, 2012, the owner of a 2005 Honda CBR1000 motorcycle contacted the Raleigh Police Department to report the motorcycle stolen from the owner’s apartment complex parking lot. The owner had received an Early Warning notification from their LoJack Vehicle Recovery System that the motorcycle had been moved. The notification stated that if this movement was made without the owner’s consent, the owner should notify the police of a probably theft.
Raleigh Police Department verified the theft and entered the Honda’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the motorcycle
Minutes later, officers with the Durham Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen motorcycle on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the Honda CBR1000 to an apartment complex parking lot on Alston Avenue. There, they recovered the Honda CBR1000 in a wooded area behind the parking lot. A second motorcycle, a 2006 Honda CBR600RR reported stolen to Durham Police Department the previous night, was also recovered as a result of the LoJack track. Both recoveries were processed for latent evidence prior to being released to their owners.
The Honda CBR1000 owner/victim had been a victim of another motorcycle theft in May 2012. The owner stated that, “due to the first theft without a recovery, (he) purchased the replacement motorcycle and had LoJack installed to stop the theft of his motorcycles”. The investigations of all three motorcycles, two from Raleigh and one from Durham, continues.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2005 Honda CBR1000 in July of 2012 at Team Powersports in Garner, North Carolina.
