LoJack Aids Suffolk County Police in Recovery of Stolen Yamaha Motorcycle, Suspect Arrested

On September 27, 2012, the owner of a 2012 Yamaha YZF-R6 motorcycle contacted the 3rd Precinct, Brentwood, NY, Suffolk County, to report his motorcycle stolen. According to the owner, his Pastor asked to borrow his bike for a few hours; feeling that it was safe to lend the bike to his pastor, he did so. However, after two days passed and the bike was not returned, the owner decided to report it stolen.
Suffolk Police verified the theft and had the Yamaha’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the motorcycle.
A short while later, officers from the 90th Precinct in Brooklyn, NY, picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Yamaha on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle through various streets in the 90th, 79th and finally into the 77th Precinct. Apparently, the suspect stopped momentarily, enabling the officers to apprehend him. After a brief investigation, officers discovered that the subject had just returned from Philadelphia, where he had gone to visit friends. The suspect was arrested for the stolen bike and additional charges.
The bike was recovered in excellent condition, without any damage. The owner was notified, and was elated to learn that his bike was recovered so quickly, especially with no damage.
