LoJack Helps Nassau County Police Recover Stolen Suzuki Motorcycle, Arrest One for Theft

On September 15, 2012, the owner of a 2011 Suzuki GSXR1000 motorcycle contacted the Nassau County Police Department’s 1st Precinct to report that the bike was stolen from his home in East Meadow, New York. According to the victim, he went to the gym, and when he returned, the motorcycle was missing from its parking space in front of his house.
Nassau County officers verified the theft and had the motorcycle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the bike.
A short while later, members of the Nassau County’s 1st Precinct picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Suzuki on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible signals on the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to the driveway of a private residence in Uniondale, and to the garage on the property. The officers called in detectives from the Nassau County Auto Squad; upon their arrival, the detectives gained permission to search the property from the resident of the home. Inside the garage, the detectives located the stolen Suzuki motorcycle.
The resident stated that a friend of his had asked to store the bike in the garage for a short while. The resident was immediately placed under arrest, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The motorcycle was recovered in excellent condition, with only a broken ignition. The owner was contacted, and was very happy to learn that the bike had been recovered with such minor damage.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed at the owner’s request on May 20, 2011 at Alamo Cycles in San Antonio, Texas.
