On August 29, 2012, for the third time in two years, the owner of a Honda Civic EX contacted the Fife Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. According to the victim, it was taken from the owners’ residence in the 4600 block of 16th Street East sometime during the late evening to early morning hours of August 28-29. Fife Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda.

Minutes later, several agencies, including Washington State Patrol troopers in a Cessna aircraft, received the silent LoJack homing signal transmitting from the stolen Honda on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their cars and the airplane. The aircraft directed troopers on the ground to the area of South 279th and Pacific Highway South near Federal Way. There, a WSP motorcycle trooper located the car, abandoned in an apartment complex parking lot.

The vehicle, valued at $4,200, did not appear to be damaged. The owner responded to the scene and took possession of her vehicle.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Honda Civic in April of 1998, when it was purchased as a new vehicle at Ray Fladeboe Honda in Irvine, California.
