On August 28, 2012, United Rentals, the owner of a 2011 Case Backhoe, contacted the Irving Police Department to report that their backhoe was stolen from their store in Irving.  Someone had cut the chain to their back gate and stole this backhoe and the trailer that it was sitting on.

Irving Police verified the theft and entered the equipment’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the backhoe.

A short while later, officers from the Dallas Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen backhoe on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the backhoe to a small construction site, where they found it sitting on the ground. The stolen trailer was parked beside the backhoe.  The construction site manager told officers that a sub-contractor brought this stolen backhoe to this site. This remains an ongoing investigation, with a suspect to be identified before long.

The stolen backhoe was recovered with no damage, and was released to United Rentals at the recovery location.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2011 Case Backhoe in April of 2011 at United Rentals.
