On August 19th, the owner of a 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX contacted the Renton Police Department to report the vehicle stolen.  It was taken from the owner’s apartment complex in the 4400 block of NE 5th Street sometime during the late evening to early morning hours of August 18th or 19th.   Renton Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Subaru.

Less than thirty minutes later, an officer with the Renton Police Department and a deputy with the King County Sheriff’s Department received the silent LoJack homing signal transmitting from the stolen Subaru on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol cars.  Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the Subaru was located in the 100 block of Orcas Avenue NE in Renton. The vehicle’s battery had been removed and some items stolen from the car, but was otherwise in good condition. The value of the car is approximately $18,000.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Subaru Impreza in June of 2003 at Irvine Subaru in Lake Forest, California.  The current owner was not aware that his vehicle was equipped with LoJack.
