Tacoma Police Track and Quickly Recover Stolen Ford Fusion, Undamaged

On July 26, 2012, the owner of a 2009 Ford Fusion contacted the Tacoma Police Department to report the theft of the vehicle.  The vehicle was stolen sometime after July 11th, while the owner was out of town. Tacoma Police verified the theft and entered the Ford’s identification number into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

Less than two hours later, officers with the Tacoma Police Department received the silent LoJack homing signal transmitting from the stolen Ford on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol cars.  Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officers tracked the Ford to the intersection of South 11th & Sprague Avenue in Tacoma.  It was abandoned and did not appear to be damaged.

The officers returned the Ford to the owner, who purchased it as a used vehicle and was unaware that it was equipped with LoJack.
