On July 19, 2012, the owners of a Buick Century Special contacted the Los Angeles Sherriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the street in Marina Del Rey. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Buick.

A short while later, an LAPD Southwest Division officer picked up the silent signal from the victim’s stolen Buick on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officer observed the vehicle exiting a parking lot in the 3800 block of Crenshaw Boulevard being driven by one male suspect. When requested back-up units arrived, they conduct a high-risk traffic stop, taking the suspect into custody. The suspect was arrested for Grand Theft Auto. The vehicle was recovered intact and is valued at $8,200

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Buick Century Special at Simpson Buick-Olds, in Downey, California.
