On June 25, 2012 the owner of a2004 GMC Safari contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to report that their vehicle was stolen from driveway of their residence in Orlando, FL after hearing a loud thump outside the home and checking the front noticed the GMC was missing.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the GMC.

A short while later, deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen GMC on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the deputies tracked the vehicle to an apartment complex on Silver Star Road in the Pine Hills section of the county. The rear seats had been removed from the van and were located beside a garbage dumpster on the side of one of the buildings in the complex.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the GMC Safari on October 2004 at Courtesy Chevrolet, Orlando, Florida.
