On July 16, 2012 the owner of a2003 Ford F550 pickup truck contacted the New York Police Department’s 90th Precinct to report that the vehicle had been stolen from in front of his place of business in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The owner had parked it there on July 14, 2012, but did not notice it missing until July 16.

NYPD officers verified the theft and had the Ford’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This process automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the vehicle.

A short while later, officers with the Brooklyn North Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Ford truck on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officers tracked the vehicle to a commercial street in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. There, they located the vehicle parked on a desolate street. They staked the vehicle for a short while; however, when no one returned for it, they recovered the Ford.

The vehicle was recovered in good condition, with only minor ignition damage. The owner was notified, and was elated to learn that his vehicle had been recovered so quickly, and with such minor damage.  Apparently, the thieves thought that the owner was carrying musical sound equipment in the vehicle, as he commonly does; however, this vehicle was only carrying stage platform equipment. The owner expressed how pleased he was to have LoJack installed on the vehicle.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2003 Ford F155 Truck on April 12, 2012 at Country Ford in Levitown, New York.
