On June 24, 2012, the owner of a 2002 Mercedes Benz contacted the Baltimore City Police Department to report that the vehicle was stolen from the 1500 block of Gold Street in Baltimore City, Maryland. Baltimore City officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Mercedes Benz

A short while later, flight officers from the Baltimore City Police Department Aviation Unit picked up the silent Lojack homing signals from the stolen Mercedes on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their helicopter. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the flight officers tracked the vehicle to the Unit Block North Smallwood Street. There, the officers located the unoccupied stolen Mercedes Benz, quickly recovered the vehicle and notified the owner.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Mercedes Benz in October of 2002 at Mercedes Benz of Miami, Florida.
