LoJack® System Helps Albuquerque Police Department Recover a Stolen Chevrolet Cobalt

The owner of a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. The owner advised the Cobalt was stolen by a known subject. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Cobalt.

Approximately five minutes after the activation, officers with the New Mexico State Police and the Albuquerque PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet Cobalt with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the LoJack signal to the Southeast Area Command.

Officers located the stolen Cobalt and made contact with the owner of the recovery. The owner responded to the scene and took possession of the Cobalt. The current owner had no idea that the original owner purchased the LoJack® System to protect the vehicle in the event it was ever stolen. About twelve years after the original installation, the Cobalt was stolen, tracked by law enforcement via LoJack and quickly recovered.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Cobalt in June 2007 at Midway Chevrolet in Phoenix, Arizona.
