A City of
Everett parks department employee discovered his city work truck had been
prowled. The truck had been unlocked and unattended while he worked in the
park. When the victim returned to the
vehicle, he discovered his backpack, which contained personal items to include
the keys to his vehicle were missing.
Upon returning to the city employee parking lot, the victim realized his
2000 Mazda Miata had been stolen.
Everett Police Department responded immediately to investigate. The theft was confirmed and the vehicle
information was entered into the state and local crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the vehicle.
As the responding officer was leaving the area, he received a LoJack® hit on
his Police Tracking Computer (PTC), installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. The officer furnished the reply code to
dispatch and learned the signal was coming from the Mazda Miata that was just
reported stolen. Utilizing the audible
and visual signals of the PTC, the officer was able to navigate to an residential
area in Everett. The stolen Mazda was
located unoccupied in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
The ecstatic owner of the Mazda received his vehicle back in just over one hour. The vehicle was intact, undamaged and the expensive after-market tires and wheels remained untouched.
The LoJack System was installed in the Masada Miata in January 2006 at Honda of Fife, Fife, Washington.
