LoJack System Helps Los Angeles Police Department Recover Stolen Audi Q7 Suspect Arrested

The owners of a 2017 Audi Q7 contacted the Los Angeles County Taskforce for Regional Auto Theft Prevention (T.R.A.P) taskforce to report their vehicle stolen by fraudulent means (Identity Theft).  Detectives from TRAP verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2017 Audi Q7.

A short while later officers from LAPD 77th St Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Audi Q7 with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the vehicle to a parking lot in the 4300 block of S. Figueroa St where the vehicle was located. 

While waiting for T.R.A.P Detectives to respond, they observed a male exit a store, entered the vehicle and drive off.  Officers requested backup and as the officers were following the vehicle, the suspect pulled to the curb at 51st St west of Flower St.  Officers took the driver and his passenger into custody without further incident or damage to the vehicle.

The officers processed the two individuals and learned that the driver was on active parole for robbery and the passenger on probation. The lead detective questioned the driver about his possession of the Audi. The driver stated that he had purchased the Audi Q7 from an individual who took a deposit of $2,500, with an outstanding balance of $7,500. The suspect informed the detective that the vehicle had an estimated value of $40,000.  Since there was no proof of sale or receipts and the suspect being on active parole, officers booked the suspect for Receiving Stolen Property and later charged him with driving a motor vehicle without owner’s consent.  The second subject later released without charging.


The LoJack® System was installed in the Audi Q7 in March 2016 at Beverly Hills Audi in Beverly Hills CA.
