The
owners of a 2015 Volkswagen Passat contacted the Scottsdale Police Department to
report their vehicle stolen. The Scottsdale Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal
crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack®
System concealed in the Volkswagen.
A short while later the air unit from the Phoenix Police Department picked up
the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen with the LoJack Police
Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues
from the PTC, the air unit tracked the vehicle to the area of 51st
Avenue and Southern Avenue in Phoenix.
The Phoenix Police Department air unit directed the marked patrol cars in the area to the stolen vehicle. The Phoenix Police Department officers located the stolen Volkswagen unoccupied and locked in the parking lot of store and fast food restaurant. No suspects were observed in the area. The recovering officers processed the stolen Volkswagen for evidence. Officers impounded the vehicle and later returned it to the owners in good condition.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen Passat in April 2018 at Volkswagen North Scottsdale, Phoenix, Arizona.
