The owner of a 2019 Jeep Cherokee contacted the Los Lunas Police Department and the LoJack Call Center to report the vehicle stolen.  The owner advised he started the Jeep and went back inside of his residence to retrieve some items.  When the owner went back outside he discovered the Jeep was gone.  The Los Lunas PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Jeep Cherokee.

Approximately an hour after the activation, members with the New Mexico Auto Theft Task Force (New Mexico State Police Auto Theft agents and Albuquerque Police Department Auto Theft detectives) and officers with the Belen Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Jeep with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their undercover and patrol vehicles.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the ATTF tracked the LoJack signal to the area of NM 6 and Interstate 25.

The ATTF tracked the stolen Jeep westbound along NM 6 and then southbound into the open desert.  The Jeep was located at the end of a dirt road and at the bottom of a hill.  The ATTF recovered the stolen Jeep and advised the owner of the recovery.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Jeep Cherokee in August 2018 at Melloy Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Los Lunas, New Mexico.
