The owner of a 2014 Honda CRV contacted the Oakland Police Department to report their vehicle stolen.  The owner advised the vehicle was taken from in front of their residence in the overnight hours.  The Oakland Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2014 Honda CRV.
A short time later, the Oakland Police Department’s Helicopter (ARGUS)  was patrolling the city when they were alerted to the stolen Honda CRV by means of the silent LoJack signal from the stolen vehicle with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the stolen Honda CRV was tracked and observed being driven on city streets.  The Honda CRV then entered southbound I-880, and drove to the neighboring city of San Leandro. The ARGUS crew was able to follow the stolen CRV while notifying the San Leandro Police Department that the vehicle was now in their city.

The stolen CRV parked in a residential neighborhood on Redwood Avenue at Acacia Street, and the ARGUS crew then observed a male suspect exit the vehicle and walk to a nearby house on Acacia Street and enter. Attempts by the police to contact the subjects in the residence were unsuccessful. Research on the address indicated a subject who lived there was on searchable probation for a weapons violation.  As officers were entering the residence, the suspect and a second subject attempted to leave from a side yard and were immediately taken into custody.  A search of the stolen CRV revealed stolen packages, stolen mail, and other items likely stolen in auto burglaries. Follow up investigation will be conducted.

The stolen Honda CRV was recovered by San Leandro PD and the vehicle was released to the owner at the scene. The LoJack® System was installed in the 2014 Honda CRV in October 2015, at Honda of El Cerrito, in El Cerrito, CA.
