LoJack® System Helps New Mexico Auto Theft Task Force Recover a Stolen Chevrolet Camaro

The owner of a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Camaro.
Shortly after the activation, officers with the Albuquerque Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Camaro with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft. The officer observed the stolen Camaro in the area of San Mateo and Lomas. The offender elected not to get pulled over and took off at a high rate of speed to elude the officer. Rather than engaging in a risky pursuit, the officer passed along the information to the members with the New Mexico Auto Theft Task Force (New Mexico State Police and Albuquerque PD Auto Theft Units) who drive undercover vehicles.
The ATTF picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Camaro in the area of Chama and Bell. The Camaro was tracked and located in an apartment complex parking lot. Surveillance was established in hopes the offender would return. After surveillance was conducted the Camaro was recovered, processed for evidence and towed from the scene for safe keeping.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Camaro in May 2014 at Galles Chevrolet in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
