Victim Kidnapped and Left for Dead — Phoneix Police Using LoJack Quickly Arrest 3 Suspects

On the morning of June 13, 2012, a man pulled into an apartment complex in the 7000 block of West Indian School in his 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. He was quickly approached by two armed suspects, who forced the victim back into his truck at gunpoint. The suspects then forced the victim to withdraw cash from a local ATM, tied him up, and drove into the desert where they left him to die in the heat. The victim managed to free himself from the restraints, and after several hours, contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report the crime.
Phoenix officers verified the theft and had the Silverado’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the truck.
A short time later, Phoenix Police officers began picking up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Silverado with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their police vehicles. Following the directional and audible signal on the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a residence in the 1700 block of East Wood, where officers observed the stolen Silverado in the backyard. Officers detained one suspect as he attempted to flee the home on foot, and two other suspects inside the home. Officers then executed a search warrant and recovered evidence from the crimes. All three suspects were booked into jail on kidnapping, armed robbery, and auto theft charges.
The LoJack Recovery System was installed in the Silverado in March 2009 by Coulter Motors.
