The
owners of a year 2010 GMC Terrain contacted the Sterling Heights Police
Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. Sterling Heights Police verified the theft
and entered the vehicle information into
the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the GMC.
A short while later deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit conducting
air patrol picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen GMC with the
LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles
and aircraft. Following the directional
and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the vehicle
to residential area in Detroit near the border of Oakland, Wayne, &
Macomb counties. The deputies were
unable to visually see the GMC so they contacted two area auto theft task
forces who then responded to the area.
Detectives from the Macomb Auto Theft Section (MATS) equipped with PTC’s, picked up the signal and tracked it to a residential garage. A search warrant was obtained and executed. Upon opening the garage, detectives found the stolen GMC with no damage. It was impounded for processing. Information was obtained from the occupants of the residence. This matter is to be further investigated by MATS.
The LoJack® System was installed in the GMC Terrain in March 2010 at Ray Laethem GMC, Detroit, MI.
