The owners of a 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser contacted the California Highway Patrol Santa Barbara area to report their vehicle stolen.  Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later officers from California Parks Police  picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota Land Cruiser with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.

Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the vehicle to Ventura Ave and Main Street where they observed the vehicle waiting for a light to change.  As they attempted a traffic stop the female suspect sped away.  A short pursuit ensued and terminated a short distance away.  The suspect jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot.  Officers chased her and arrested the suspect without further incident.

During the field investigation the suspect admitted she had stolen the vehicle as she had seen the car keys sitting on the front seat and needed a ride. Officers later booked the suspect for numerous felony charges including the theft of the vehicle.  The recovered Toyota Land Cruiser was stored for safekeeping and later released to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Land Cruiser in March 2009, at North Hollywood Toyota in Los Angeles, California.
