LoJack System Helps Illinois State Police Recover Stolen Volkswagen GTI

The owner of a Volkswagen GTI contacted the Chicago Police Department to report that her vehicle had been stolen when she had left it running in front of her pet groomers as she ran in to get her pet. The vehicle was stolen from the 5000 block of N. Western Avenue in Chicago’s Lincoln Square neighborhood. Chicago Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen.
A short while later troopers from the Illinois State Police picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the troopers tracked the vehicle to an apartment complex in the 9000 block of Terrance Drive in Niles Illinois.
The troopers placed the Volkswagen under observation for a period but when no one returned to it recovered the stolen vehicle and towed it for processing. The stolen undamaged Volkswagen was recovered before it could be stripped, cloned, re-tagged or used in a crime and returned to a grateful owner.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen in May 2006 at Boston Volkswagen in Boston, MA.
