The owner of a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze contacted the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office to report the vehicle was stolen.  The Bernalillo County SO verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Cruze.

Shortly after the activation, officers with the Albuquerque Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Cruze with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the LoJack signal to the area of Gibson and Yale.

The stolen Cruze was located in a hotel parking lot.  The Cruze was left unlocked and amongst the other vehicles.  Often time auto theft offenders park stolen vehicles in plain sight along other vehicles to “cool off” after the theft.  Officers processed the Cruze for evidence and attempted to make contact with the owner to advise of the recovery.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Cruze in January 2017 at Galles Chevrolet in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
