On May 28, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle contacted the Myrtle Beach Police Department to report the vehicle stolen from a local hotel. Myrtle Beach Police officers verified the theft and entered the Honda’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the motorcycle.
A short while later, officers from Horry County Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen motorcycle on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the motorcycle to a housing development in a remote area of the county. Officers found the Honda in a locked storage room of the house, intact and undamaged. The owner denied any knowledge of the motorcycle being on his property; however, both the husband and wife were arrested by county officers. The investigation is continuing.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda CBR 1000 on May 19, 2005 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
