LoJack® System in Stolen 2008 Honda assists Portland Police Bureau with Recovery and Arrest

A student attending Green River Community College in Auburn, Washington realized his Honda Civic was stolen from the parking lot sometime during the day when he was attending class.  The vehicle had been locked and he still possessed the keys.  The theft was immediately reported to the Auburn Police Department who verified the theft. The Honda was entered stolen into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the vehicle. 

While on routine patrol, an officer with the Portland Police Bureau, Oregon (150 miles away) received a LoJack hit on his Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Utilizing the audible and visual signals of the PTC, the officer was able to track the stolen Honda to a parking lot in the area of North Lombard and North Buchannan, Portland.  The vehicle was unoccupied at the time and the officer took up a covert position in order to maintain surveillance on the stolen vehicle.  Before long, a male entered the stolen Honda and was subsequently contacted and arrested by the officer.  The suspect had a shaved/ altered key in his possession that successfully opened and started the stolen Honda.   

The Honda Civic was impounded for evidence and safekeeping.  It was later returned to a very thankful owner.      

The LoJack® System was installed on January 2008 by California Honda of 1000 Oaks.
