The owners of a 2006 Honda Element contacted the Grand Rapids Police Department to report that their vehicle and keys had been stolen by a known suspect. Grand Rapids Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

A short while later detectives from the Grand Rapids PD Auto Theft Unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the detectives tracked the vehicle to a residential area of Grand Rapids.

Surveillance was established and after a short time the suspect returned. Detectives converged on the suspect and vehicle before it could be driven away. The suspect was arrested for Auto Theft. The stolen Honda was impounded and later returned to the owner. Because of the quick recovery the suspect did not have enough time to strip it or use it to commit additional crimes. This matter is to be further investigated by the Grand Rapids PD Auto Theft Unit.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Element in May 2007 at Tamaroff Honda, Southfield, MI.
