The owners of a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report their vehicle had been stolen.  LAPD Central verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Only 8 minutes later officers from multiple agencies, including an LASD Airship, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the LASD Airship broadcast the general location of the stolen Chevrolet and LASD Century patrol deputies responded to the area.  The patrol deputies located the Chevrolet as it was stopped for a red light in the county area of Los Angeles.  The patrol deputies got behind the Chevrolet and followed it until additional deputies arrived.  The deputies safely conducted a traffic stop and detained the driver.  The deputies questioned the driver about how he came into possession of the stolen Chevrolet.  The driver claimed he got the Chevrolet from a friend, who is a gang member.  The driver said he paid $200 for the Chevrolet.  The deputies asked the driver if he thought the Chevrolet was stolen because of the low price.  The driver said he believed it was stolen but that it was his “friend’s” problem that sold him the vehicle.  The driver was unable to provide any identifying information as to the subject that sold him the Chevrolet.  The driver was arrested for receiving stolen property.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Cruze in September 2015 at Rydell Chevrolet, Northridge CA.
