In August 2018, the owner of a 2017 Toyota Camry contacted the Collierville Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot of the apartment complex where they reside.  The vehicle had been left unlocked with the key inside and there had been a rash of auto burglaries in the apartment complex.

The Collierville Police Department, which is a suburb of the Memphis Metro Area, verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Camry.

After the vehicle was entered into the crime computer, an Officer with the Memphis Police Department  picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the Officer tracked the vehicle to the parking lot of an apartment complex in Memphis.   The Memphis Police Department Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to process the recovered Toyota for forensic evidence.  The case remains an ongoing investigation and the recovered Toyota could hold forensic evidence that could help identify suspects involved in not only theft of this vehicle but also other crimes that were committed in the geographical area during the time frame it was stolen.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Camry in September 2016 at Performance Toyota, Memphis, TN.
