The owners of a 2017 Honda Civic contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Description was given of a female suspect with tattoos. According to the owner, he was approached by the female and was asked for a ride.  They drove to a liquor store and the victim left the vehicle with the suspect inside leaving the vehicle running.  When he exited the vehicle was gone.  Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Civic.

A short while, later officers from LAPD W. Valley picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda Civic with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the vehicle from Balboa and Saticoy to Amestoy south of Willard St where their LoJack signal pointed to a vehicle with a car cover on it.  They stopped and observed red rear brake lights shining thru the cover.   At this point movement was observed in the vehicle.  Back up assistance was requested and the officers removed two subjects from the vehicle with one of them matching the description of the suspect. Both suspects were taken into custody without further incident.

During the search of the stolen Honda the officers discovered a silver purse belonging to the female suspect.  Inside the purse was a man’s wallet and Id apparently taken from a Burglary from Motor vehicle. The officers contacted the victim who worked at a nearby hospital and learned that the wallet with ID had been left in the victim’s locked vehicle when someone broke into it and removed the property.

Both suspects were later booked for Vehicle Theft and Probation violation as well as additional charges on the female.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic at Galpin Honda in July 2017.
