LoJack System Helps Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Recover Stolen Ford Escape, Suspect Arrested

The owners of a 2009 Ford Escape contacted the Ontario Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford Escape.
A short while later deputies from LASD East LA Station picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford Escape with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the vehicle to Eastern Ave and Whittier Blvd identified the vehicle and followed it onto the 710 Freeway. At this time, the stolen Ford Escape pulled over and the suspect was detained until back up arrived. When questioned about the theft, the suspect related that he was being chased by gang members in Ontario and he observed the vehicle parked on the street with the driver’s door open and engine running. He admitted he stole the vehicle and was going to come to Pasadena to visit his daughter where he would leave the car to be picked up by the police.
The suspect who was a convicted Felon, was booked at the LASD East LA Station by assisting deputies for the theft of the vehicle as well as other charges. Case referred to Detectives for filing.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford Escape at San Francisco Ford, Lincoln Mercury in June 2009. .
