In the early morning hours the Verona Police Department attempted to stop a 2017 Jaguar XJ for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle fled, leading the Verona PD officer on a short pursuit that the officer terminated at the Verona – Montclair boarder. The license plate on the Jaguar was obtained during the pursuit and the vehicle was not reported stolen at that time. The owner of the Jaguar lives in Colts Neck. The Colts Neck Police Department was notified, went to the residence and spoke to the owner. The owner of the Jaguar had no idea that his vehicle had been stolen from his driveway. The Jaguar was unlocked and the key fob was in the vehicle.

The Colts Neck PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Jaguar.

A short while later, officers from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal coming from the stolen Jaguar with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Jaguar to Badger Avein the City of Newark, where the vehicle was recovered abandoned.
