Toyota Camry Reported Stolen in Pembroke Pines Located in Tow Yard — Actually Repossessed

On Friday morning, May 11, 2012, the owner of a 2009 Toyota Camry sedan contacted the Pembroke Pines Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. After verifying the theft, Pembroke Pines officers had the Toyota’s information entered into the federal and state crime computers, which activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Camry.

A short time later, a Miramar Police Department officer began to receive the Toyota’s LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol car.  Within minutes, officers from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and Miami-Dade Police Department were also tracking the stolen vehicle’s LoJack signal. The officers converged upon a tow yard near South 58th Avenue and Plunkett Street, in Hollywood. The officers inquired about the vehicle in the tow yard’s office. They were told that the vehicle had been repossessed by the loan holder on the vehicle.

Hollywood Police Department responded to “recover” the vehicle, and removed the Toyota from the crime computer systems. The vehicle remained in the possession of the “REPO” company.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Camry in May 2009, and has been protecting it ever since.
